Capacity Building for Integrated Water Resources Management


CapNet-Bangladesh started in March 2004 with the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) as the Country Secretariat. Since then, CapNet-Bangladesh has been very active in building networks among the major water sector players, carrying out workshops/ seminars and technical sessions, research in IWRM with special focus of gender equity, knowledge dissemination, strengthening capacity and recruiting new members for both the country and the South Asia region. The Capacity Building network institutions & resource persons provide a common platform to converge everyone’s expertise, sharing their successes and lessons learned and to growing together in order to contribute to the ever expanding knowledge on water and its management.


Objective of CapNet-Bangladesh

  • Create networks within the country among government agencies and the private institutions that deal with capacity building in water related issues especially in water management and water supply and sanitation.
  • Create networks at the local/ community level for capacity building in IWRM with regard to gender, poverty, economic growth and social equity.
  • Strengthen existing networks at the international, regional and local level to facilitate the sharing of innovations, training outcomes and knowledge/ experience sharing among the network partners 
  • Build capacity in the water sector and other interlinked sectors in order to bring the concept of IWRM to the forefront.
  • Bring together professionals from various fields and raise their awareness about the importance of IWRM in poverty reduction and resource management.
  • Train high and mid-level officials of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), NGOs and CBOs for contribution in both policy-making and implementation of the IWRM concept in the major water sector development projects.
  • Educate the media about the importance of IWRM.
  • Build capacity in existing IWRM mandated organizations.
